Network Office

The CASCADE Network Office ensures coordination and management of CASCADE Network of Excellence activities such as administration, dissemination, teaching, infrastructure and science.

 

The Network Office is located at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm at Coordinator’s site and is formed by following personnel:

 

 

Prof. MD Ph.D. Jan-Åke Gustafsson, Coordinator

Jan-Åke has his expertise in Molecular Endocrinology, Molecular Nutrition and Molecular Toxicology. His main research achievements are in the field of nuclear receptors; e.g. first to define nuclear receptor domains, first to define hormone response elements in nuclear receptor regulated genes and discovered oestrogen receptor beta. As Coordinator of CASCADE, Jan-Åke is responsible for the planning and leading of the network activities (following the Consortium Agreement and PSC decisions). He is the main legal entity with respect to the European Commission and the primary conduit between the EC and the consortium i.e. the project partners.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Ingemar Pongratz, Vice Coordinator

Ingemar has a Ph.D. in Biology. He received an Assistant Professorship from the Swedish research Council 2000-2004 and has his own research group at the Department for Biosciences and Nutrition, Karolinska Institutet where he studies the crosstalk between nuclear receptors and bHLH-PAS proteins. As Vice Coordinator, Ingemar works close to the Coordinator and is in charge of strategic issues regarding CASCADE, its improvements and future plans.

 

 

 

Dr. Elin Swedenborg, Scientific Manager

Elin Swedenborg has a PhD in molecular biology from Karolinska Institutet, and has been working with endocrine disruptive chemicals interfering with estrogen signaling. She is responsible for monitoring the scientific progress of CASCADE.

 

 

 

 

Mrs. Daniela Wester, Administrator

Daniela Wester is a technician with considerable scientific background in the research fields of tumour biology, immunology, virology, molecular biology and genetics. In addition, Daniela Wester has valuable experience as an administrative research coordinator. Daniela Wester is working with the daily administration duties of CASCADE Network Office.

 

 

 

 


 

 

Ms. Jill Jönsson, Communication Manager

Jill has an MSc in Biomedicine and experience from research in the field of hormones and tumour biology. She is also science journalist, with experience from spreading information and extended organisational skills. Jill is combining her skills of journalism and biomedicine to transform the results of CASCADE activities to popular science for the public. As Communication manager, Jill is responsible for the communication strategy for CASCADE, including producing news letters, press releases and the CASCADE web site.

Jill is also chairman of CommNet, a network of science communicators.

 

 

Ms. Lisbeth Sjödin, Head of Network Office On maternity leave

Lisbeth has a Bachelor of Economics and a marketing background and thus brings a valuable skill set to the network management team. As the administrative head of Network Office, Lisbeth is overall responsible for the day-to-day work and planning of Network Office activities and for CASCADE relations with the European Commission and partners regarding administrative matters such as periodic reporting and contractual issues.
